Canada's public emergency alert system to test on BC mobile devices today

Wireless devices will be included in emergency alert test today

Wireless alerts will be tested for the first time in B.C.at 2:55 p.m. (Mountain) today May 9, as part of a federal-provincial government initiative to improve public safety in the event of emergency. The messages were sent automatically at no cost to cellphone users.

A spokesperson for the company behind the system said the alert worked in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Schuler reminded Manitobans to be careful when they receive today's test alert.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Seattle Mariners
So over last two starts , Paxton has allowed five hits and zero runs over 16 innings while walking four and striking out 23. He also hit the go-ahead two-run shot in the Mariners' eventual extra-innings win over the Angels on Saturday.

Jennifer Wood, Program Coordinator for Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership says today's alert is just a test, but it will get people prepared if there ever is a real one. Residents should understand the risks around them, and should have an emergency kit and a plan for their workplace, home and vehicle. During an emergency, the line should only be used for those in life-threatening situations.

Test signals are also expected to sound on radio and TV stations Wednesday in provinces and territories outside of Ontario and Quebec, except Nunavut.

Prior to the new system, the province had a system that would send tsunami warnings to local governments and media outlets, that would then pass on the alert to the public.
