Trump pulls US out of Iran deal

Applauding Trump correction

"Walking away from the JCPOA turns our back on America's closest allies, and an agreement that our country's leading diplomats, scientists and intelligence professionals negotiated", he wrote on Facebook.

Netanyahu before leaving Israel said that "the meetings between us are always important and this one is especially so". The former president warned: "The consistent flouting of agreements that our country is a party to risks eroding America's credibility, and puts us at odds with the world's major powers".

The newspaper said that as part of the pullout, "a decision to immediately reinstate all nuclear-related sanctions would be the most extreme step Trump could take now".

Iran insists its nuclear programme is entirely peaceful, and its compliance with the deal has been verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The deal, struck in Vienna following two years of intensive talks orchestrated by the Obama administration, was signed by Iran and six other nations in 2015.

Iran has 20,000 centrifuges and a 10,000 kg stock of uranium. For decades, Iran had steadily advanced its nuclear program, approaching the point where they could rapidly produce enough fissile material to build a bomb.

Trade Minister Steven Ciobo led a large trade mission in late 2016 to Iran and re-opened the Austrade office in the capital Tehran "to begin rebuilding Australia's commercial relationship with one of the Middle East's biggest economies".

Michael Avenatti Mocks 'Doctor' Michael Cohen Consulting for Drugmaker Novartis
Novartis' contract with Cohen came at a time when Trump appeared open to allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices. Novartis often has business before the federal government, particularly approval of medications.

Moscow and Teheran have had close political and economic relations, and in the nuclear field, Russian Federation has already built one reactor at Iran's Bushehr plant and started work on two new ones. The nuclear non-proliferation regime is at stake.

While most USA allies decried the Trump administration's decision to unravel the principal foreign policy achievement of his predecessor, Barack Obama, the decision was hailed by Washington's two main Middle East allies, Israel and Saudi Arabia, both of which long opposed the deal.

Iranian state television said on Tuesday that Trump's decision to withdraw was "illegal, illegitimate and undermines worldwide agreements".

"However, in my point of view, the US will be the one to lose", he said.

French President Emmanuel Macron will also speak with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani by telephone on Wednesday afternoon about "our wish to stay in the agreement", Le Drian said.

Robin Wright, contributing writer for The New Yorker, joint fellow at the Wilson Center and the U.S. Institute of Peace, and longtime correspondent for the Washington Post, as well as CBS News and the Los Angeles Times.

Violating the JCPOA may also have consequences on the U.S.'s ability to reach a denuclearization agreement with North Korea. So it's not surprising John Kerry's objective today was to keep the deal.

That platform is now being undermined, in order to prevent the public from hearing the message of one side. Instead, Mr Quinn said Google's decision is "completely disproportionate".

Many Americans also appeared to be concerned about what would happen if Trump pulled the United States out of the deal.

In a strongly worded joint statement, the UK, France and Germany rejected Trump's decision.

"The move also raises two important questions for the Trump administration and the global community: Whether Iran will respond by resuming its quest for nuclear weapons - and whether reneging on the Iran pact might affect North Korea's willingness to cut a denuclearization deal of its own with the president".

Conversely, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said it appears the Trump administration has no plan going forward.

Finally, the JCPOA was never meant to solve all of our problems with Iran. We were clear-eyed that Iran engages in destabilizing behavior - including support for terrorism, and threats toward Israel and its neighbors.

"We fundamentally share America's concerns in relation to Iran's destabilising regional behaviour and the ballistic missile programme". The JCPOA was created as an alternative to tension and isolation.

An early sign of American pressure on European business came within minutes of Trump's statement at the White House.
